New drug for breast cancer

15th January 2010

Researchers at the University of Sheffield have discovered that a combination of breast cancer drugs administered over six weeks worked as well as six months of treatment.

45,000 women are diagnosed with the disease every year. Senior lecturer Dr Ingunn Holen and the research team, which received funding from the Breast Cancer Campaign, tested the combination of drugs on two groups of mice. Dr Holen said: "These findings are very promising. Clinical studies in patients are now needed."
