C-sections do not impact on breastfeeding

UK researchers have found that mothers who deliver by Caesarean section are no less likely to breastfeed for a shorter time than women who have a normal delivery.

The team studied 2,000 mothers and found that ethnicity had more impact on breastfeeding duration, with white mothers 70% more likely to stop breastfeeding sooner than non-white mothers. The researchers, from East Lancashire Primary Care Trust and the University of Manchester, also found that a woman who was giving birth for the third or fourth time was more likely to persevere with breastfeeding.
