GP pay award slammed
11th March 2010
Doctors leaders have hit out at a decision by the government to give GPs an effective pay cut.
At the Scottish LMCs conference in Glasgow Dr Dean Marshall, chair of GPC Scotland, said the award of a 1.34% increase in contractual payments for GPs – with an attached 1% efficiency saving in GP expenses – was effectively a pay cut. Doctors warned that it would force practices into tough decisions over staffing levels and services and branded it unfair, despite the current financial climate.
